Case Study
Signal 5 LMS
Gamified enterprise and government learning management system with AI personalization and role-specific dashboards.
Problem
Enterprise and government training programs need engagement, compliance tracking, and personalization at scale. Traditional LMS platforms often fail to adapt to diverse learner roles and lack gamification that drives completion.
Context
Built at KAIA for a training-heavy client environment. Required three distinct role experiences: administrators, instructors, and learners. AI personalization was a core requirement, not an add-on.
Constraints
- React + Firebase stack
- Multiple dashboard types for different roles
- Gamification without trivializing serious training content
- Enterprise/government compliance expectations
Goals
- Increase learner engagement through gamified "five signals" framework
- Provide role-specific dashboards with clear operational visibility
- Enable AI-driven personalization paths
- Support scalable content delivery
Approach
Applied the Learning Architecture Framework: map learner journeys first, then design content delivery, then layer gamification and AI personalization.
Architecture
- React frontend with Firebase backend
- Three role-specific dashboards (admin, instructor, learner)
- "Five signals" gamification layer integrated into progress tracking
- AI personalization module for adaptive learning paths
Workflow
Content authoring → signal mapping → learner assignment → progress tracking → AI path adjustment → completion reporting
Tools
React, Firebase, AI personalization integrations
Key decisions
- Gamification tied to meaningful progress signals, not arbitrary points
- Role-based dashboards instead of one-size-fits-all UI
- AI personalization as workflow layer, not bolt-on feature
Results
- [TBD] Learner completion rate improvement
- [TBD] Time-to-competency reduction
- [TBD] Admin operational efficiency gains
- Three production dashboards shipped
Lessons
Learning systems fail when architecture ignores role differences. Gamification works when tied to real progress signals.
Framework
Learning Architecture Framework — design learner journeys, content delivery, and assessment as one system before choosing tools.
